If you're going to do it for business and your client provides their own batting and backing, measure everything twice to make sure. Unfortunately it will happen at least once. You don't want to get a surprise as you approach the bottom and realise your batting and/or backing is too short. You don't know what will happen at the bottom as you can't see that part. You can see how much excess you have on the side and at the top of the quilt as you pin it.

***very important- make sure you cut your batting at least 2" to 3" (or more) on all sides (as well as your backing fabric), esp top and bottom. You can also spritz it with water when it's draped over your frame instead. You can put it in the dryer, if not to get wrinkles out but at least to get rid of excess lint. If you know you're going to quilt something in a few days, cut your batting ahead of time (or take it out of the bag if it's pre-cut), lay it over your frame to get the wrinkles out for those days. I need to construct the take up reels, and finish the lower shelf, I guess the batting roll goes on that. I thank GrammaBabs for all her encouragement and for sending me several instructional videos on how to put the frames together, Denis for his great advice, and countless other forum friends for their enthusiasm for my new venture. So I have a huge pile of Garage sale stuff for the parish sale, tons of cardboard and shopping bags, which have been recycled, clean shelves begging for more treasures to be stored on them, and after 5 hours crawling on the floor, undoing backwards assembly, and tightening about 200 bolts with an allen wrench, the Inspira is almost ready to accept its machine partner. Friday, clean the basement, Saturday, the garage, Sunday, put the frame together. It has been languishing in the garage for weeks because I was too busy to get the space cleaned out. Well, my whole weekend has been dedicated to cleaning a space and putting together my Grace Inspira quilting frame for my Pfaff longarm machine.
